Any company can use the ™ sign on any unregistered mark that they use for trade. However, they can only use the ® sign on the mark once it has been registered. It is illegal to use this sign on an unregistered mark.  So, how do you do it? You could do it yourself through the National Trademark Office or you could instruct an Intellectual Property Law firm to go through the process of registering your business name and brand.

It can be a costly process but in the grand scheme of things what would cost more? A law firm that would protect you and your business brand or the overall cost of re-branding?

Why Buy Carpet?

The Benefits

Carpets vs Hardflooring

The debate over which is better, carpet or hardflooring, hardflooring or carpet remains a highly sensitive, yet very topical, subject for both commercial and residential markets alike.

Articles in early 2004 appeared in four leading UK national newspapers headlining accidents on hardflooring have increased by over 300% in the last five years (research carried out by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents – RoSPA – February 2004). This may have focused attention on one aspect of choosing floorcovering but there are many other benefits when specifying carpet over hard floor covering.

The Benefits of Choosing Carpet

The benefits derived from selecting good quality carpets in any type of application are manifold: what other type of floorcovering will provide sound insulation, energy savings, underfoot comfort, a safe, non-slip floor, and be easy to clean and install, with good wear and non-allergenic properties, while still providing the consumer with the flexibility for individual creative design?

Sound Insulation

Noise pollution in houses can have a serious effect on the wellbeing of all its users and in this respect a fitted carpet plays an important role virtually eliminating impact noise through sound absorption.

Therefore the use of carpet enhances sound absorption, and the conduction of impact noise can be reduced by up to 30dB, as opposed to comparative values for smooth floorcoverings which lay between 5-15dB.

For example, the benefits of noise reduction can be felt throughout the house. In particular, in flats and on first/second floors when noise of hard flooring can be heard most by people on lower floors.

Energy Saving

Carpets can make a measurable contribution to retaining the warmth in a room and therefore saving energy. Carpets have low heat conduction and are natural thermal insulators creating a heat barrier.

As a result, as much as 10% of the heat in a room which would be dissipated with smooth floorcovering is retained in the room by the carpet.

This, combined with the outstanding underfoot comfort of a carpet, can result in a considerable reduction in the use of heating in the transition from a warm to a cold

Season. It has been estimated that up to 30 days heating can be saved, resulting in an energy saving of around 4-6% and a consequent reduction in heating bills.

Safety covers two aspects – reduced slippage, especially when wet, and a decrease in stress on joints the soft resilient fibres of a carpet provide a cushioning effect and excellent orthopaedic properties.

The underfoot safety of carpets is an important feature, both in the home and the workplace. Infants and the elderly in particular benefit from the non-slip aspects of carpets and, in the event of a fall, the soft resilience of the carpet lowers the risk of injury.

With their superb dust-trapping properties, carpets are conducive to a healthy living environment. Dust settles quickly and is then securely held by the pile fibres of the carpet until it is vacuumed again.

The dust is not disturbed by incoming air draughts, and this means that the dust content of the indoor air is kept low. This is particularly important since dust particles also act as carriers for germs, allergens and other air contaminants.

Allergies due to carpeting are unknown. The myth that carpets promote dust-mite allergies is untrue, because these are attributable to the faeces of the house-dust mite – the actual allergen itself. Bedding and bed linen contain up to 70% more house-mites than carpets. Regular vacuuming and cleaning, together with adequately ventilated and dry rooms, means that it is virtually impossible for a carpet to contain, entrap or transmit allergens.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning and maintenance of carpet is quick, easy and low cost.

Carpets are quick and easy to install allowing the consumer considerable scope for fashionable creativity – whether they are used in a wall-to-wall design or in combination with other flooring surfaces.

Most quality carpets have excellent wear properties, which means that many years of comfortable service can be expected if the right carpet is selected in the first instance.

Could your Life Cover be more Tax Efficient?

| Comments Off on Could your Life Cover be more Tax Efficient?

If you are a Company Director looking to provide Life Assurance to help provide financial security for your employees, or your own loved ones, then there is a way of paying premiums in a more Tax Efficient way.

As the premiums are paid by the company, they are usually considered as a business expense and are not treated as a benefit in kind so:

  • as the policy premiums are treated as a business expense they are likely to be an allowable deduction against Corporation Tax
  • there is no liability for National Insurance for employers or employees on the policy premiums
  • there is no liability for employees to pay Income Tax on the policy premiums
  • the death in service benefits are paid tax free to the nominated beneficiaries
  • the death in service benefits do not form part of an individual’s lifetime allowance for pension savings
  • the policy premiums do not form part of an individual’s annual allowance for pension contributions

So, taking out a Relevant Life Policy could be a tax efficient solution to provide valuable death in service benefits for individual employees:

  • where the number of employees is too low for a company group scheme or,
  • who may require more life cover than the main Company scheme provides.

Please remember that tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change in the future.

If you would like to discuss the benefits of paying Life Assurance through your company then I am happy to have a chat to explain it in more detail.

eLink64 – the premium link building service from e64

| Comments Off on eLink64 – the premium link building service from e64

eLink64 System

Over the years we have developed a wealth of experience in building links and connections to help boost websites on the Search Engines. Using our experience we have developed our innovative and effective link building system, eLink64.

eLink64 allows us to generate a powerful link profile for your website that search engines like Google pick up and use to raise your site’s authority, and so rank it higher for the search terms that matter.

Link Diversity

We use a combination of site types to build this profile, gaining links from established Blogs, Web 2.0 (interactive sites like Facebook and MySpace), Article Directories, Social Media Links (Twitter, Wiki sites etc.) and Social Bookmarking sites (e.g. Delicious and Digg). The graphic below represents how we use each type of site to either link directly to your website, or link to those links and boost their strength. The diversity of links strengthens the profile of your site.

eLink64 Link Diversity Overview

Three Tier Linking

To really make these links work for your website, we make them work for each other in a three tier structure (as shown in the previous diagram). We use links from the established blogs, social bookmarking and social media sites as tier 1 links that link directly to your website.

We then create links from Web 2.0 sites, Article Directories and Forums to link to those pages on the tier 1 websites where we have placed the links to your website. In doing this we are building the strength of those links to your site. We then further build the weight of the tier 2 links by using a third tier which link to the pages where the tier 2 links were placed.

This creates a network of links, and interlinks where the most powerful type of sites link directly to your website, which are boosted in strength by links we have created in a network of cross‑linking from a diverse and wide range of website styles and content. The result is a flow of links that gain strength and power from each other and so boost your website’s ranking for the chosen targeted keywords on the search engines. With eLink64, these links are generated each month, every month.

eLink64 Link Network

The diagram below represents the link network eLink64 generates, and shows how the interlinking strategy of this system generates a highly effective link profile for your website.

eLink64 Generated Link Profile

RSS Feeds and Site Pinging

An important element of eLink64 is that it not just creates the links, it uses a combination of RSS feeds and ‘ping’ services, as provided by Google and other search engines.

The search engines provide ping services to allow websites to alert them of new website and pages so they can index the content quicker. eLink64 uses these services to ensure that each link created is found quickly by the search engines, and so starts to benefit your website sooner rather than later.

Monthly Reporting

Each month we provide you with a spreadsheet of all the links eLink64 has generated, each link will be live so you can check them out and see how your link profile is growing each month.

You should note though that on its own eLink64 will not have the full desired effect, and your website will also need to be fully search engine optimised for the same terms that eLink64 targets.

Search Engine Optimisation

As mentioned in the previous section, to make sure your site gains the maximum benefits from eLink64 your site needs to be fully optimised for the chosen search terms. Our Website Promotion service, often called Search Engine Optimisation, looks at building your website’s ranking and visibility on the main listings with the major Search Engines.

To make sure your website gains the maximum benefit from eLink64, there are two activities we would complete, which are explained in more detail later in this document.

  • Keyword Research and Competitive Analysis
  • Web Page Optimisation

The overall aim for your website is to achieve great rankings in the free listings on the main Search Engines. By presenting your website in a certain way, tweaking your pages’ content as well as managing other activities, we can ensure your website will rank well for the chosen search terms. The benefit of using e64 is that we only research and recommend terms that will have a direct benefit to your bottom line. The two specific activities we recommend to compliment eLink64 are:

Keyword Research and Competitive Analysis

We can conduct comprehensive keyword research and analysis to identify the main search phrases the website should target. By analysing the search terms actually being used in over 350 million recent live searches this ensures the website is targeted to attract high numbers of suitable visitors.

During this stage we also assess how competitive each keyword is by looking at how many other web pages are specifically targeting them. This allows us to recommend the most appropriate keywords to use in the website and supply a report showing the predicated number of visitors you could receive if you were in the top three to five websites listed for each particular search term.

Web Page Optimisation

Once the most effective and popular keywords for the website have been selected, suitable pages should be worded to reflect them. Not all pages of a website need to be optimised and the overall number selected is dependent on the results from the keyword research and discussions about those results with the client.

As part of this stage, both the technical and visual design of the site is also reviewed as these help gain higher rankings and more importantly, higher conversion rates for your site.

Pages from the site are then selected and recommended for optimisation, once it has been agreed which pages will be optimised we will optimise the existing copy and submit the changes for your review. If new pages are to be optimised we would require the initial copy for us to optimise.
