I need a Solicitor – is it safe to see one at the moment?

You may be wondering whether it is possible to get legal advice during the current pandemic.

You may want to talk about the possibility of getting divorced, you may want to move house, a friend or relative may have died, or you may be wanting to plan for the future and make a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney.

At Onions & Davies, we can help with all of these things and we have been doing so all through the pandemic.

Although we are a business, we are also a public service, to the extent that some of our advisers are classed as key workers by the Government.

Although we had to close the office for face to face meetings with clients for a few months, we continued advising people by telephone, video conferencing, email and letter.

We reopened the office over two months ago, so that we could also see clients face to face again, and we are taking every precaution to make sure that our clients, our staff and their families remain safe.

Our offices are professionally cleaned, we have a rota system, with staff working from home and in the office, to limit the number of people in the office at any one time, and we restrict the number of face to face appointments that we have each day, with only one client or one set of clients in the office at a time.

We have full cleaning and sanitising equipment available for staff and clients, and our interview room is fully sanitised between client appointments.

We are still advising clients by telephone, video conferencing, email and letter, and doing home visits where appropriate, but if you do wish to see us face to face, we are doing everything we can to make that possible and safe for you and for us.

Everything is taking a bit longer than it used to – our work involves interacting with many other organisations, including Government bodies (the Courts, the Land Registry, the Probate Registry, the Office of the Public Guardian, HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Work & Pensions, for example) and private businesses (Banks, Building Societies, Insurance Companies, Accountants, Financial Advisors, Estate Agents, Stockbrokers and so on) and all these organisations are effected by the pandemic.

If you do need legal advice therefore, we would urge you to act sooner rather than later, to allow time for the various processes to take place.

The point of this article is to say that you can still get legal advice, and, if you need it, to let you know how we at Onions & Davies will do everything we can to help you with this. We are proud of our responsible, hardworking and dedicated staff, who will do their best to help you.
